Weekly update

Not a lot has gone on craft wise since my last post, unless you count me anxiously waiting for my new Stampin Up! stuff to arrive... It will be here Monday, fingers crossed.

My week wasn't uneventful -  I helped my friend move into a new house, did some yard work with my mom to spruce up for Memorial Day, watched our small town parade, took my nieces on a playdate to the museum, caught up on some TV shows and played volleyball with my friends. We also had a situation on our street that we still don't have answers about, but will haunt us for a long time.

I have lived in our neighborhood for a total of like 16 years - when I was born until like age 6ish and then we moved away.  We moved back to the same house in December 2012.  I remembered the parade from when I was a kid and it's been the thing I look forward to the most each year as far as our neighborhood is concerned.  The parade has slowly gotten smaller, but it still hits me in my feels.  I never really thought about what Memorial Day meant, other than cookouts and time off work, but took the time to learn about it this year.  Our city was originally called Vetville.  A group of veterans created it when they returned from WWII. It made me realize that our parade was not only for those who sacrificed their lives to protect our country, but to honor those who created our small town.  It made it all the more emotional for me.  The parade was definitely very small this year - a police car, two fire trucks, two ambulances, a marching band, a boy scout troop and a car advertising the library - but it still gave me chills and made me proud to live where I do.

I am hoping to start work on cleaning up my room this weekend. Wish me luck.  I am terrible at focusing on things like this, but it definitely needs to be started so I can finish and have a space that will nurture my creativity and not hinder it.  Plus, I told Sheila I will design a card for July's class so I need to have a space to work on that!

Sunday Funday Hazie Style

I watched my niece/goddaughter this weekend while her parents had a much needed weekend away for their anniversary.  She is a riot and kept me on my toes the whole time. One thing she loves is to paint. So on Sunday, we got out the paint and some canvas and went to town. There was a point where I felt like I lost control of the situation but it was fun nonetheless. I need to figure out how to finish my piece with the dots… I may add a quote over them or in between…

March Card Class design

For March I had a plan and I am happy to report that I executed it perfectly the first attempt!  I took a card layout and combined it with a color combination I liked to create what I think is the perfect card to send to your friends.  Layout and color combination are not my images, but the final product is my doing.  Let me know what you think!

February Card design + design process insight

Sometimes I think I have a great card layout but it just doesn't come to fruition. I want to touch on my design process and how I get from the first rendition to the last when I am struggling with how it looks.  I started with a card based on my original layout. I planned to use a stamp set (Amazing Year) that was in the annual catalog, but didn't seem to be used too much (that I had seen). It did not turn out good at all, in my opinion.  So I sent it to my fellow demonstrators and got a few suggestions. I updated the design, but something was still off.  I asked my upline for some advice and then came up with the final design. While I did ask for opinions and suggestions, I didn't always use the advice given. The process took several days because I like to step away from a project when it's not going quite as planned.  The first one may have had potential, but I think I was limiting myself with a color palette since I was set on trying to use a specific DSP (designer
